The administration announced a coordinated criminal volunteer fraud surge initiative to pursue investigative leads, conduct field interviews, and support timely prosecutorial review. This initiative, led by the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, targets noncitizen voters in nine states, including Wisconsin, Washington, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Missouri, Nevada, New York, and Pennsylvania. Federal officials have claimed to find tens of thousands of wrongfully registered voters. The Department of Homeland Security has cited four cases in 2024 and 2025 of arrests connected to noncitizen voter fraud. The agency stated that noncitizens who vote in American elections will face criminal charges and deportation. State officials in Washington have expressed skepticism regarding the scope of the investigations. Secretary of State Steve Hobbs and Attorney General Nick Brown both noted that the state has only documented five cases of voter fraud out of 90 million ballots cast between 2008 and 2025. Hobbs and Brown stated that the state's elections are secure and that the federal government is investigating a phenomenon they believe to be false.
