Maine State Government Issues $300 Affordability Checks to Residents Meeting Income Requirements

The Maine state government is mailing $300 affordability checks to more than 500,000 residents. Funded by the state's rainy-day fund, the payments are intended to provide financial relief to residents who filed 2025 state taxes and met specific income thresholds. To be eligible, residents must be full-year Maine residents. Individual filers must have earned under $50,000, heads of household must have earned under $75,000, and married couples filing jointly must have earned under $100,000. The administration announced that checks are being sent automatically to those who meet these conditions. Sharon Huntley, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Administrative and Financial Services, stated that as of a recent Thursday, the state had already mailed 367,211 checks. Residents who filed their taxes by the October 15 deadline will receive their checks within two weeks. If a resident is deceased, a surviving spouse or representative can cash the check if taxes were filed before death or by the estate. The state reduced the income limits to manage spending. Residents can track their check status on the state's website or call the affordability payment helpline.
