Fausto Corrales Rodríguez is arrested in Mexico City for his role in the murder of Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda
The General Prosecutor's Office arrested Fausto Corrales Rodríguez in Mexico City on Wednesday, marking the first detention in two years regarding the murder of Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda. Corrales, a close collaborator of the former university rector, is accused of falsifying information and concealing the truth about Cuén's death. While the official version initially claimed Cuén was killed during an armed robbery at a gas station, new evidence suggests he was killed at the Huertos del Pedregal ranch. This location is also where the drug lord Ismael El Mayo Zambada was allegedly kidnapped. Witnesses from the Los Chapitos structure indicate that Corrales was a hostage rather than a co-conspirator, and that the murder was orchestrated to facilitate the kidnapping of Zambada. The arrest follows public pressure to resolve the case. Authorities are currently investigating the potential involvement of several politicians and officials, including former vice-prosecutor Dámaso Castro Saavedra, who is accused of ordering a cover-up of the murder.
