A dirt bike rider in his early 20s was taken into custody after leading Los Angeles police on a dramatic hourlong pursuit.

A man in his early 20s was taken into custody in South Los Angeles after leading the Los Angeles Police Department on a dramatic pursuit lasting over an hour. The chase began near Dodger Stadium around 5:45 p.m. and spanned across several neighborhoods, including Watts and Compton. During the pursuit, the rider navigated surface streets, traveled on the wrong side of the road, and even cut through Earvin "Magic" Johnson Park and Athens Park. In a bizarre turn of events, the rider stopped at a gas station on Alameda Street but fled with the gas pump hose still attached to the bike. He was also observed using a cellphone while riding and standing up on the bike. The dirt bike was reported stolen, and the suspect was initially thought to be armed, though no gun was recovered. The pursuit concluded when the rider ran out of gas and abandoned the bike in a111th Street. The suspect then ran through several backyards before attempting to hide in a blue recycling bin. Officers eventually took the man into custody at gunpoint near 112th Street and S. Broadway.
