FARC Dissident Groups Attack Military and Police Installations in Cauca Department
Dissident groups of the FARC launched simultaneous attacks against public force installations in the municipalities of Inzá and Cajibío in the Cauca department early Sunday morning. In Inzá, the Dagoberto Ramos front of the FARC dissidences attacked the Jose Hilario Lopez military base using rifle fire and explosives. At the same time, the Jaime Martínez front of the FARC dissidences targeted the police substation in El Carmelo, Cajibío, utilizing drones loaded with explosives and rifle bursts.\n\nResidents in both areas were instructed to remain in their homes to avoid being caught in the middle of the confrontation. While the military base in Inzá faced a siege of rifle fire and explosions, the police substation in Cajibío was subjected to a barrage of shots and drone-launched explosives. Authorities have not reported any serious injuries among the uniformed personnel in the Inzá attack, though preliminary reports indicate three personnel were injured by shrapnel in the Cajibío attack. The use of drones in these regions represents an escalation in technology used by illegal armed groups to conduct aerial attacks at a distance.
