Mark Walter is under investigation by federal prosecutors and the SEC for potential financial reporting errors in his insurance empire.
Federal prosecutors and the Securities and Exchange Commission are investigating Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter to determine if financial relationships were concealed when over $20 billion was moved through his insurance companies. The investigation focuses on whether these billions were properly reported, specifically regarding Delaware Life Insurance Company and its affiliate Clear Spring Life and Annuity, both of which received grand jury subpoenas. While the Los Angeles Dodgers are not the primary focus of the investigation, the team's owner is currently shifting billions across his vast sports empire. Mark Walter has already begun managing his other assets, such as the Los Angeles Lakers, which he agreed to sell for $12.5 billion. Filings show that Delaware Life revised disclosures for $17 billion in investments tied to related businesses, increasing its share of the portfolio from 3% to 42%. Despite the scrutiny, Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten maintains that no immediate changes are expected for the team itself.
