Severe storms in metro Atlanta and surrounding regions caused widespread power outages and downed trees on Saturday.

Severe weather and strong winds on Saturday afternoon and evening caused widespread power outages across metro Atlanta and surrounding regions. Heavy downpours, hail, and wind gusts reaching 60 miles per hour brought down numerous trees and power lines. In metro Atlanta, Georgia Power reported that more than 50,000 customers were initially without power, with the heaviest concentration in Fulton County. By midnight, the number of affected customers decreased as crews worked to restore electricity. In southwest Atlanta, a large tree uprooted and collapsed onto power lines and a transformer, knocking out power to a neighborhood. The storms also affected areas outside of metro Atlanta, including Columbus and Muscogee County. In Columbus, neighborhoods near Wynnton Road, Hilton Avenue, and Buena Vista Road lost power, with 500 to 2,000 customers affected in each area. Downed trees and power lines blocked roadways in several locations, including Kenilworth Drive and Selwin Avenue SW. First responders cleared trees from roads and reported no injuries from the tree-down calls.
