Anutin Charnvirakul holds urgent security meeting following 51 coordinated arson and incendiary attacks in southern Thailand

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul convened an urgent meeting with high-level security officials on Sunday to address a series of 51 coordinated arson and incendiary attacks that occurred across Thailand's southern border provinces. The violence, which took place between 8:00 p.m. and midnight on Saturday, primarily targeted government property, shops, and infrastructure in Narathiwat, Yala, and Pattani provinces. Three civilians were wounded in a barn-bombing incident in Narathiwat, while several government buildings, a 7-Eleven convenience store, and telecommunication towers were set ablaze. The attacks, largely attributed to the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) insurgent group, were intended to demonstrate the group's capabilities and create unrest. The administration announced that the military had received intelligence reports of these attacks for approximately two months. Lieutenant General Norathip Poinok noted that the assaults were a form of retaliation for previous crackdowns. The Thai government continues to seek to revive peace talks with the BRN to resolve long-standing grievances regarding autonomy in the Muslim-majority region.
