Three people died in a fiery collision on I-66 in Fairfax County after a Honda Pilot rammed into an oxygen truck.

Three people died in a fiery collision on the westbound I-66 Express Lanes in Fairfax County on Sunday afternoon. At approximately 4:10 p.m., a Honda Pilot rammed into the back of a truck carrying oxygen tanks that had stopped in the right travel lane. The impact caused the Honda to erupt in flames, and all three occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. Virginia State Police reported that a Toyota 4Runner was also involved in the events leading up to the crash. Following a consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, the drivers of both the Toyota and the oxygen truck were charged with reckless driving. The crash caused significant traffic delays, closing the westbound express lanes for nearly seven hours. The roadway was officially reopened just before 11 p.m. Sunday.
