OpenAI releases GPT-6 Astra model as Jensen Huang declares the arrival of the artificial general intelligence era

OpenAI has released its newest and most powerful model, GPT-6 Astra, which the company describes as a generational leap in AI reasoning, coding, and computer use. The administration announced that Astra is now generally available on Amazon Bedrock, allowing organizations to use the model for complex business decisions, financial analysis, and software engineering. Due to unprecedented demand for the model, OpenAI has temporarily paused new subscriptions for its $200-per-month Pro plan to manage infrastructure strain. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang declared that the release of Astra marks the beginning of the artificial general intelligence (AGI) era. While AGI lacks a universal definition, OpenAI defines it as highly autonomous systems that outperform humans at most economically valuable work. President Greg Brockman stated that Astra represents a turning point in the pursuit of AGI. CEO Sam Altman noted that Astra's ability to identify problems users had not considered was particularly impressive. The model is being rolled out across various plans, including Plus, Business, and Enterprise, as well as through the OpenAI API.
