The institution, founded in 1960 by Neus Espresate, Jordi Espresate, Quico Espresate, JosĂ© AzorĂn, and Vicente Rojo, stated that the book market has changed significantly, making it difficult to survive solely on book sales. Sales plummeted to 25 percent of pre-pandemic levels, and the editorial house struggled to maintain operations despite various efforts over the last six years. To manage growing debts, the house sold its property in the Roma neighborhood. The closure marks the end of an era for a label that published works by notable authors such as Carlos Fuentes and Octavio Paz. While the Mexican publishing industry continues to evolve, the closure of Ediciones Era signifies a major shift in the literary landscape of contemporary Mexico.
