Diane Davoine reports staff strike at Eiffel Tower after female workers were removed for Hindu group visit

The Eiffel Tower closed on Monday following a staff strike triggered by the removal of female employees from their positions during a visit by a Hindu religious group. Diane Davoine, a staff union representative, stated that approximately 100 members of the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) group visited the landmark on Saturday. During this visit, women were asked to leave their places of work to accommodate the men in the group. Management at the Société d'Exploitation de la tour Eiffel acknowledged that the delegation requested limited interactions with women, though the company admitted these conditions should not have been accepted. The BAPS group issued a statement apologizing for any inconvenience caused, while disputing the claim that the visit was intended to be rooted in gender. Paris Mayor Emmanuel Gregoire announced that an investigation into the circumstances of the visit would be launched. He stated that the dissatisfaction of the employees is legitimate and that equality between men and women should be applied everywhere in the city.
