Abelardo De la Espriella Signs Record Number of Decrees in First Month of Presidency

President Abelardo De la Espriella signed 163 decrees in his first 30 days of office, marking the highest volume for a first month of any government in 24 years. While the administration announced a high volume of administrative acts, many were focused on appointments and the removal of previous officials. The administration also signed 45 extradition acts, the highest number in the last six governments, and issued 13 declarations of insubordination to remove officials without specific motivation. To address the fiscal crisis, the administration announced a budget reduction of $22 billion for the current year and a project law to achieve additional savings of $42 billion by 2027. In the energy sector, the administration announced measures to rationalize consumption and mitigate the impact of the previous government's policies. The administration also moved to dismantle several policies from the previous administration, including the revocation of 70% of the new executive's policy decisions, which were primarily aimed at overturning Petro's rules. This included the termination of several dialogue tables for the 'total peace' policy and the revocation of several environmental protections.
