Audias Flores Silva receives suspension on extradition to the United States for drug trafficking and money laundering charges.
Audias Flores Silva, a high-ranking lieutenant of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, has received a suspension preventing his immediate extradition to the United States. The former head of the cartel, known as 'El Jardinero,' is required by a federal court in Colombia to face charges including drug trafficking, money laundering, and arms trafficking. Flores Silva filed an appeal before the 16th Judicial District Court in Penal Matters in Mexico City. He argued that the May 1 hearing was held in a state of defenselessness because he lacked adequate communication and his specific attorney was not present. Judge Alberto Ávila Muñoz initially rejected the appeal, but the Sixth Collegial Tribunal in Penal Matters revoked that decision and ordered the demand to be be admitted. Judge Ávila Muñoz then granted an immediate suspension of the extradition process. This measure prevents the physical transfer of Flores Silva to the United States until the appeal regarding his extradition is definitively resolved.
