Elder David A. Bednar Dedicates New Cleveland Ohio Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles dedicated the Cleveland Ohio Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Sunday, August 16, 2026. The new house of the Lord serves the more than 12,000 members in the Cleveland, Akron, Hiram, and Kirtland stakes. Located in Independence, Ohio, the temple is situated approximately 20 miles southwest of the historic Kirtland Temple, a site where the church's first temple was dedicated in 1836. Elder David A. Bednar emphasized the importance of having closer access to sacred ordinances and the power of godliness. The dedication ceremony was broadcast to meetinghouses throughout the temple district. The Cleveland Ohio Temple is the church's 221st operating house of the Lord. The dedication occurred on the same day that Church President Dallin H. Oaks dedicated the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple. The new temple joins the Columbus Ohio Temple as the second operating house of the Lord in the state, providing a spiritual home for the nearly 66,000 Latter-day Saints in Ohio.
