Ronald Johnson highlights historical security results from Mexico-U.S. cooperation against narcotics and money laundering

Ambassador Ronald Johnson described the security results from Mexico-U.S. cooperation as "historical" under the leadership of President Trump. During the International Forum on Financial Crimes CI-First, Johnson highlighted the shared priorities of making communities safer and protecting the border. The administration announced that the U.S. and Mexico are working together to achieve these goals, while the administration also emphasized the importance of tracking and securing the financial resources of cartels to weaken their operational capacity globally. Mexico has reinforced operations against narcotics under pressure from President Trump, who has threatened to impose general tariffs as a measure of urgency. President Trump has also offered military support to combat organized crime, though the administration announced that Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo insists on maintaining national sovereignty. Recent successes include the DEA reporting that Mexican authorities dismantled eight significant methamphetamine laboratories with U.S. intelligence support. On September 4, Mexican authorities seized 16.8 tons of metanfetamine from three clandestine complexes in Sinaloa. Security Secretary Omar Garc铆a Harfuch called this one of the most important blows against synthetic drug production during the administration's current term.
