The slide deployed accidentally just before the president was set to board the plane to travel to the Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas, Texas. President Donald Trump told reporters that officials were ensuring the slide worked perfectly and confirmed the plane was safe to fly. The White House confirmed that the slide was being checked before the plane departed. After the slide was deployed, it was pulled off the plane and hauled away on a truck before takeoff. The $400 million jumbo jet was donated by the Qatari royal family last year. While the plane has raised questions from some lawmakers and ethics experts, the administration announced that the jet is safe for the president to use. The plane landed in Dallas around 5:15 p.m. ET, which was a couple of hours later than expected.
