Ricardo Anaya Cortés Criticizes Mexico's Low PISA 2025 Education Scores

Senator Ricardo Anaya Cortés described the 2025 PISA test results for Mexico as a tragedy, noting that the country ranked last among OECD member countries in science. Mexico scored an average of 403 points, which is significantly lower than the OECD average of 469. In mathematics, Mexico ranked antepenultimate, and in reading comprehension, it ranked penultimate. The results show that only 0.1% of Mexican students achieved high performance in mathematics, while 8% of students in OECD countries reached that level. Similarly, only 0.3% of Mexican students achieved high performance in reading comprehension, compared to 6% in OECD countries. Ricardo Anaya Cortés stated that the poor management of education under the current government has resulted in a disaster for the future of students. He demanded that the government double its efforts to improve the quality of education. While students showed a positive attitude toward learning, they demonstrated a need for greater autonomy in planning their studies and checking their understanding.
