Bogotá Police Capture Two Suspects and Recover Stolen Vehicles Using a Universal Remote Control

Bogotá Police captured two individuals in the Engativí neighborhood who were attempting to remove a stolen truck from a parking lot. The suspects were caught in the act of using a universal remote control, which authorities claim was used to unlock the vehicle's insurance. The truck had been reported stolen since early July under the modality of 'halado.' Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Section (Sijín) also conducted search and seizure operations in the La Favorita neighborhood of Los Mártires. These operations resulted in the recovery of three stolen motorcycles, three engines, and a one gasoline tank with altered identification systems. The police reported that these recent crackdowns have contributed to an 8% reduction in vehicle theft and a 5% decrease in motorcycle theft in the city. So far in 2026, authorities have recovered 1,066 motorcycles and 760 cars. The two captured suspects have prior records for reception and qualified theft, though they have not yet been convicted.
