General Erick Rodriguez defends legality of Guaviare bombing after three minors were confirmed dead

General Erick Rodriguez defended the legality of a strategic air strike conducted on August 27 in El Retorno, Guaviare, following reports that three of the ten victims were minors. The military operation, coordinated with the National Police, targeted a structure belonging to the Jorge Suárez Briceño block, which was directed by alias 'Cotis' and part of the 'Calarcá' factions. Rodriguez stated that the operation met all legal standards for strategic air attacks and that the military successfully neutralized ten combatants. The strike resulted in the recovery of 19 rifles, seven machine guns, and over 29,000 rounds of ammunition. Defense Minister Jorge Mora confirmed that the recruitment of minors by armed groups constitutes a war crime. The administration announced a new interdisciplinary table to strengthen the state's response to the recruitment of children and adolescents, aiming to make the groups responsible for these practices more accountable.
