Colonel Hector Alexander Juzga Leon Clarifies New Weapon Carrying Regulations in Colombia

Colonel Hector Alexander Juzga Leon, head of the Department of Control of Arms, Ammunition and Explosives, clarified that the recent lifting of the general suspension of gun permits in Colombia does not allow every citizen to carry a weapon freely. While the administration eased restrictions, specific requirements such as background checks, medical exams, and mandatory handling courses remain in place for both firearms and traumatic weapons. Juzga Leon stated that citizens with a current permit can move freely with their weapons throughout the national territory. He emphasized that the purchase invoice or an import permit does not replace the official carrying permit issued by the military authority. For traumatic weapons, owners must have had them registered and marked by Indumil before 2023. The official noted that all procedures, including acquisition, revalidation, and transfer, must be initiated through the official Siam 2.0 platform. Citizens with expired permits for more than 30 days must pay a fine based on the minimum legal wage before starting the application. The military authority manages the controls and authorizations, while Indumil handles the manufacturing, importation, and commercialization of weapons.
