The States of Guernsey approved planning permission for a new Victor Hugo Centre to celebrate the legacy of the French author.
The States of Guernsey granted planning permission for a new educational and cultural Victor Hugo Centre in St Peter Port. The center will transform the former States Office building into a museum, interpretation center, and performance space dedicated to the French author who spent 15 years in exile in Guernsey. Larry Malcic, chair of the Victor Hugo Centre Guernsey LBG, stated that securing permission was a major milestone for creating a permanent home for the author's legacy. The project will feature a learning hub and an immersive celebration of the global icon. Construction is expected to be scheduled to begin in the spring of 2027, following the completion of detailed design and tender documents. The project has already received over £7.5 million in contributions from islanders and the States of Guernsey.
