Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that Israel conducted airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhur military airport in northern Syria to signal its disapproval of Turkey's expanding military role in the region. The strikes occurred after Israel repeatedly warned Damascus and Ankara that a Turkish military entrenchment south of current positions would pose a threat to Israeli security. Defense Minister Israel Katz accused Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of dragging Turkey into "dangerous adventures" and urged him to avoid testing Israel's determination to self-defense. While Syria condemned the strikes as a violation of sovereignty, the administration announced that the United States continues to work toward brokering trilateral talks between Syria, Israel, and the US to encourage diplomatic de-escalation. The strikes come amid rising tensions between Israel and Turkey. Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir of the Israel Defense Forces monitored the changes on the Syrian front, stating that Israel will not allow hostile forces to establish themselves on its borders. The US Department of State previously established a joint fusion mechanism to facilitate coordination between the intelligence sharing and military de-escalation between the three nations.
