Derek Maltz Urges Mexican Authorities to Deport Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya to Face U.S. Justice

Former DEA administrator Derek Maltz called for the arrest and deportation of Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya to the United States to face formal charges. Maltz, who served as acting administrator during the administration of President Trump, stated that corrupt politicians provide critical services to cartels and argued that defeating organized crime requires targeting both the criminals and the officials who protect them. Rocha Moya recently returned to the government of Sinaloa after a brief leave, a move that faced criticism from the federal government and the Morena party. The administration announced that the return was a personal decision, while the administration's allies expressed that individual decisions should not supersede collective projects. The U.S. Department of Justice has formally accused Rocha Moya and nine other officials of conspiring with the Sinaloa Cartel to import narcotics. Maltz reiterated that these charges send a clear message that regardless of an official's title, they must render accounts for their actions.
