Luis Valdez arrested after hit-and-run crash leaves Los Angeles police officer in stable condition

Luis Valdez was arrested following a hit-and-run incident in Sylmar where he struck a Los Angeles Police Department officer while the officer was investigating a separate traffic collision. The accident occurred on Friday night around 7:45 p.m. near the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Hubbard Street. While the officer was conducting the investigation on foot, Valdez's vehicle struck him, causing the officer to suffer a broken leg and head injuries. The officer was transported to a local trauma center and is currently in stable condition after undergoing surgery. Valdez was also hospitalized with a possible brain injury and is being held on $155,000 bail. Police located Valdez's abandoned vehicle in the Pacoima Wash approximately one mile from the crash site. Investigators eventually apprehended Valdez about an hour after the incident near the intersection of Sutter Avenue and Mercer Street. The investigation into the hit-and-run remains ongoing.
