Foreign ministers from eight nations condemn Israeli plans to displace the Palestinian population from the Gaza Strip

The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, Indonesia, and Pakistan issued a joint statement condemning Israeli proposals to facilitate the emigration of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. The ministers warned that forced displacement would violate international law and threaten the Palestinian people's right to self-determination. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir have both advocated for the removal of the Palestinian population from Gaza. Israel Katz stated that the country is prepared to facilitate departures by land, sea, and air, while Itamar Ben-Gvir proposed a plan for voluntary emigration to remove the vast majority of the population. In contrast, the administration announced its commitment to President Trump’s peace plan, which emphasizes encouraging residents to stay and build a better Gaza rather than forcing them to leave. The State Department clarified that the United States does not support mandatory transfer or expulsion. The eight nations also reaffirmed their support for a two-state solution, seeking an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 lines with east Jerusalem as its capital.
