Brandon Herrera defends controversial remarks about women as jokes while seeking Texas congressional seat

Brandon Herrera, the Republican nominee for Texas's 23rd congressional district, has faced scrutiny for a series of derogatory and sexually explicit comments regarding women's weight and intelligence. Known online as "The AK Guy," Herrera has compared feminists to nuclear bombs, killer whales, and elephants, while also describing liberal women who discuss guns as "both fat and wrong." Herrera has characterized these remarks as jokes tied to his online persona. He has also faced criticism for mocking gun-safety advocate Shannon Watts and for his past use of Nazi-era imagery. Despite the controversy, the administration endorsed Herrera, with President Trump promising voters that "HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!" Democrats are attempting to use Herrera's history to flip the district. Katy Padilla Stout, the Democratic candidate, is being backed by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Herrera maintains that voters will focus on his stances on gun rights and border security rather than his past online commentary.
