Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. expands berry recall to include Walmart's Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend

Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A., a Chilean company, expanded a recall on frozen berries sold at Walmart stores in 16 states. The recall includes one lot of Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend, which contains strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries. The product may be contaminated with E. coli O145, a Shiga toxin-producing strain of bacteria that can cause severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and nausea. Federal health officials are taking this action as a precautionary measure following a previous recall of frozen blueberries. While 17 people in Florida and Georgia have reported falling ill from the original blueberry recall, there are no reported illnesses associated with this specific triple berry mix. The affected 10-ounce packages have a UPC of 7874211226 and a best-by date of February 9, 2028. Consumers are advised to check their packages for lot code 6040 01-6. Those with the affected product should not consume it and may return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. If symptoms of an E. coli infection appear, the FDA advises people to contact their healthcare provider.
