Fervo Energy signs 396-megawatt power purchase agreement with Google for Utah geothermal project

Fervo Energy announced a 396-megawatt power purchase agreement with Google to supply carbon-free electricity for a possible data center in Utah. The deal, which is the company's largest contract to date, will provide around-the-clock clean power from Fervo Energy's Cape Station project.

First deliveries are targeted for 2028. This agreement builds on a previous 115-megawatt deal between Google, NV Energy, and Fervo Energy. Together, these contracts provide Fervo Energy with contracted demand and development visibility for approximately 1.1 gigawatts through 2030. Fervo Energy stated that Google also has an option to add about 600 megawatts, which could bring the total close to 1 gigawatt by June 2030. The project is located in Southwestern Utah near the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Geothermal Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy. Fervo Energy uses a strategy of deploying standardized 50 MW units to form larger clusters. While the company is currently in a heavy investment phase and has posted losses, the new contract helps fund the next stage of the Cape Station build-out.
