Tropical Storm Edouard threatens to bring heavy rainfall and flooding to Southeast Texas and Louisiana

Tropical Storm Edouard is expected to bring 3 to 6 inches of rain to the greater Houston area and parts of Southeast Texas on Tuesday. The storm, which was upgraded from a tropical depression, is forecast to make landfall in Texas on Tuesday afternoon or evening. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott stated that flooding is the primary concern for the storm. Forecasters anticipate rainfall rates of 3 to 4 inches per hour, which could cause flash flooding in urban areas and low-lying locations. A flood watch is in effect for Houston and much of Southeast Texas, covering areas along and east of Interstate 45. In response to the weather, several Houston-area school districts and universities have announced class cancellations for Tuesday. Districts such as Channelview, Galena Park, and Humble ISDs will be closed, while Southwest Public Schools will dismiss students early at 1 p.m. Other districts, including Pearland, Tomball, and Klein ISDs, plan to keep schools open as normal for now.
