Family members of Mario Lamar confirm the deaths of four relatives following a small plane crash near the Bahamas
Family members of Mario Lamar confirmed the deaths of four relatives following a small plane crash near the Bahamas. The group, which included Mario Lamar, his wife Lili Lamar, and their grandchildren Sofia Sosa and Christian Sosa, were traveling from Great Harbour Cay to Miami Executive Airport when their Piper PA-34 aircraft lost contact with air traffic control. The Royal Bahamian Defense Force requested U.S. Coast Guard assistance after the plane was reported down approximately 15 miles off the coast of Andros Island. While the search was initially postponed due to inclement weather, relatives and civilian boaters joined the search effort. A family member on a civilian boat located the first body and eventually helped recover all four deceased passengers. Mario Lamar was described by his family as an experienced pilot with over 40 years of flying experience. The family is currently working with the U.S. Coast Guard to bring the bodies home. The specific cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
