Ford Motor Company sets goal to sell 100,000 units of new Fathom electric pickup truck in first year

Ford Motor Company has established an ambitious target to sell 100,000 units of the Fathom, its new electric midsize pickup truck, during its first year on the market. The vehicle is expected to launch in 2027, with preorders beginning in early 2027 and deliveries starting later that year. To achieve this goal, the company is positioning the Fathom as a more affordable option compared to its competitors. The truck will have a starting price of $28,350, which is significantly lower than the price of the Tesla Cybertruck, the Chevrolet Silverado, and the Rivian R1T. It is also priced lower than the base model of the Fathom's predecessor, the F-150 Lightning. The Fathom will be built at Ford's Louisville Assembly Plant, which has undergone a massive overhaul to prepare for the vehicle's production. The plant is utilizing a new Universal EV Production System, which transforms the traditional assembly line into an 'assembly tree' where three sub-assemblies run simultaneously and merge into the final vehicle. This new system is designed to improve efficiency and operator ergonomics.
