Massad Boulos calls for nationwide arms embargo to address Sudan's humanitarian crisis and heavy military support
Massad Boulos, a senior adviser to President Trump, is advocating for a nationwide arms embargo in Sudan to address the world's worst humanitarian crisis. The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has displaced over 12 million people and left at least 150,000 dead. Boulos stated that at least 12 countries are providing military support to the warring parties. While the United Arab Emirates (UAE) denies direct involvement, UN experts have reported extensive Emirati support for the RSF. Turkey and Egypt are identified as primary military backers of the SAF. The administration announced a resolution to expand the current arms embargo from Darfur to all of Sudan. This move aims to target the networks of traders, mercenaries, and drone suppliers keeping the war alive. A UN-backed investigation confirmed that foreign personnel, including up to 2,000 Colombian military contractors, have been deployed to support the RSF. The report also noted that foreign-supplied drones have significantly enhanced the capabilities of both the SAF andrf RSF, allowing them to strike far beyond the front lines.
