Jeremy Greenstock and 50 other former British diplomats join 52 French counterparts to call for joint sanctions against Israel

A coalition of 102 former French and British diplomats has issued an open letter urging France and the United Kingdom to jointly sanction Israel. The signatories, including Jeremy Greenstock and Emyr Jones Parry, warn that current Israeli policies in occupied Palestinian territories threaten to permanently erase the possibility of a future Palestinian state. The diplomats accused Israel of engaging in ethnic cleansing through settlement expansion and settler violence, arguing that the world no longer views the country as a genuine democracy. To preserve the two-state solution, the letter calls for specific actions, including suspending trade and arms agreements with Israel, banning trade with settlements, and ensuring unrestricted humanitarian access to Gaza. The diplomats also urged the Palestinian leadership to pursue democratic renewal through upcoming elections. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi supported the call for action, stating that continued Western support for the Zionist regime constitutes a deliberate choice to participate in its crimes. The letter emphasizes that France and the UK, having historically held mandates over Palestine, have a responsibility to uphold international law and ensure equal rights for both Israelis and Palestinians.
