Jordan Bardella argues France should receive greater benefits in return for military aid to Ukraine

Jordan Bardella, co-leader of France's far-right National Rally party, stated that France should replace its unconditional support for Ukraine with a relationship that provides greater benefits for the country. Bardella noted that France is currently facing a significant financial deficit and argued that it is irresponsible to make spending commitments without guarantees. He suggested that France should receive something in return for its military aid, such as access to Ukrainian mineral resources, similar to the US approach. Bardella emphasized that his party does not intend to have Ukraine completely abandoned, but rather wants to ensure that financial support is used exclusively to purchase equipment from European defense industries. He also called for a ceasefire and security guarantees for Ukraine. Meanwhile, National Rally vice president Louis Aliot stated that the party would "turn off the tap" of aid to Kyiv if it wins the upcoming presidential election. Aliot argued that the economy and healthcare systems are stretched to the limit. In response, former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe criticized this stance, stating that weakening Ukraine serves Russia and threatens the security of Europe and France.
