Francisco Javier GarcĂa Cabeza de Vaca, the former governor of Tamaulipas, confirmed he will not return to Mexico despite facing legal accusations and remaining in the United States. During a radio interview, GarcĂa Cabeza de Vaca stated he intends to pursue the presidency of Mexico, though he will work with his lawyers to determine the best way to participate from abroad. This declaration follows an announcement by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who proposed a constitutional reform to require candidates for the presidency or governorships to hold only Mexican nationality. The administration announced this reform to address the issue of dual nationality, which has led to the U.S. government to delay extradition. The administration also noted that GarcĂa Cabeza de Vaca is currently considered an outlaw of justice. GarcĂa Cabeza de Vaca argued that the legal processes against him are illegitimate and unconstitutional. He claimed that authorities are attempting to force him to face a similar fate as former officials Rosario Robles and Ernesto Ruffo Appel, who are currently under the judgment of a judge of control.
