Raphaël Glucksmann officially declares candidacy for the 2027 French presidential election
Raphaël Glucksmann has officially announced his bid to run in next year's French presidential election. The 46-year-old former essayist and Member of the European Parliament heads the centre-left party Place publique. His announcement, made during a prime-time interview on the TF1 television channel, follows a three-month period of touring the country to propose a new patriotic contract. Glucksmann is expected to have an immediate impact on the media landscape, as his partner, journalist Léa Salamé, is expected to step back from her role as a leading figure on the rival public channel France 2 to avoid a conflict of interest. The race for the 2027 presidency is already crowded with candidates from the centrist, left, and far-right camps. To prevent excessive vote fragmentation, the Socialist Party and Place publique plan to hold a closed primary in October to select a single candidate. Glucksmann, a popular figure among young voters, currently holds a respectable score in opinion polls.
