Georgetown Police Shot and Killed a Man Following a Violent Struggle in Georgetown Square

Georgetown Police officers shot and killed a man on Saturday afternoon after a violent struggle in Georgetown Square. The incident occurred around 12:49 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the 100 block of West Seventh Street to address a man behaving erratically and jumping on vehicles. During the confrontation, the man informed officers he had a gun and reached for his waistband. Although officers determined he did not have a weapon there, the man advanced toward them, leading to a physical struggle involving at least four officers. The man then attempted to pull a handgun from an officer's holster. During this struggle, an officer fired a shot, striking the man, who was subsequently taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead. The Georgetown Police Department clarified that there was no active shooter and no ongoing threat to the public. The Texas Rangers are currently leading the investigation with assistance from the Georgetown Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division.
