Boris Pistorius Announces Germany Will Supply PAC-2 Interceptor Missiles to Ukraine from Bundeswehr Stockpiles
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Germany will deliver PAC-2 interceptor missiles from Bundeswehr stockpiles to Ukraine. During a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, Boris Pistorius stated that air defense is Ukraine's most urgent requirement and urged allies to provide missiles from their own stocks. Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara noted that Kyiv is signing contracts for approximately 1,000 missiles for Patriot air defense systems, though most will arrive in the coming years. To assist, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed that the European Union approved an exception to procurement rules, allowing Ukraine to purchase critical components for Patriot systems. This move is supported by a €3.2 billion tranche of funding. Additionally, Foreign Affairs Minister Johann Wadephul stated that Germany could share data on Ukrainian men with residency permits to help Kyiv identify those of military age living in Germany. The administration announced that approximately 1 million Ukrainian refugees have obtained temporary residence permits in Germany, including 450,000 men. Wadephul noted that the process of returning these men to Ukraine should occur without coercion.
