Alexander Dobrindt confirms German authorities are investigating a gun cache believed to be intended for Russian assassinations.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that German security authorities discovered a cache of handguns and ammunition in a forest near Berlin last year. While the minister did not officially confirm Russian involvement, reports indicate the weapons were intended for targeted killings on behalf of Russian intelligence, potentially targeting defense industry executives and exiled opposition figures. Dobrindt noted that a suspect in Romania is currently being investigated for espionage and planning a serious act of violence threatening the state. The suspect, described as a low-level agent, was also held in connection with planned parcel-bomb attacks. German authorities are currently in communication with Romanian officials regarding the potential extradition of this individual. Dobrindt emphasized that the discovery demonstrates a high threat level, noting that Germany is a daily target of hybrid warfare. The weapons were placed under surveillance for months after being discovered, during which time no one was seen approaching the site, suggesting the perpetrators were aware of the discovery.
