Los Angeles firefighters stop forward progress of the Getty Fire near the Getty Center
Los Angeles firefighters battled a brush fire near the Getty Center in Brentwood on Wednesday afternoon. The blaze, dubbed the Getty Fire, was reported just after 4:15 p.m. in the hills above the museum complex. Firefighters used multiple water-dropping helicopters and additional engines to douse the flames. The fire grew to approximately 25 acres, though no structures were immediately threatened and no injuries were reported. The Getty Center was closed to visitors and staff as a precaution, and evacuation warnings were issued for residents in zones LFD-0895 and LFD-0967. Forward progress of the fire was stopped by 6:30 p.m. Evacuation warnings were lifted at approximately 8:40 p.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The blaze occurred during a period of high heat and humidity in Southern California, with temperatures in the Brentwood area reaching 100 degrees.
