Gina Hinojosa is polling within striking distance of Republican Governor Greg Abbott for the Texas governorship

If Hinojosa wins, she would become the first Latina governor in Texas history and the first Democratic governor since 1991. Recent polls show the race is extremely close. A Texas Pulse poll from August 7 showed Hinojosa trailing Abbott by one point, while a July 28 poll from Texas Public Opinion Research showed her trailing by three points. Governor Abbott remains the incumbent with a significant fundraising advantage and wider name recognition. While Hinojosa has gained ground since the March primaries, the administration's campaign for Abbott continues to emphasize his work to prevent socialist policies from taking root in the state.
