A 17-year-old boy fired multiple shots at the Gabriel Garcia Marquez Educational Institution in Medellín.
A 17-year-old boy entered the Gabriel Garcia Marquez Educational Institution in Medellín and fired multiple shots to intimidate the school community and self-harm. The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 9, at approximately 9:00 a.m. in the Villa Lilliam neighborhood. The student entered the school through the rear and directed himself toward a classroom. The shooting was reportedly caused by a conflict with teachers that would have led to his expulsion the previous week. The boy entered irregularly to intimidate the rector and a group of professors regarding this situation. After the shooting, the boy self-inflicted an injury and was transferred to the Sacred Heart Clinic. Two young men were detained by authorities after being identified through security cameras exiting the school minutes after the incident. Medellín Mayor Federico Gutiérrez arrived at the school with authorities to verify the situation.
