Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo Opens 37,503 Public Higher Education Spaces for Students Not Admitted to UNAM

The federal government will launch a digital platform to provide over 37,500 public higher education spaces for students who were not accepted into the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). The administration announced the launch of the 'Educación Superior 2026' platform, which allows students to search for available spots based on location, academic offer, and specific fields of study such as law, engineering, and health. Mario Delgado Carrillo, the Secretary of Public Education, stated that the platform includes 37,503 total spaces, including 18,674 in-person and 18,629 online or hybrid formats. This initiative follows a recent controversy regarding irregularities and potential artificial intelligence cheating during the UNAM admission exam. While the administration maintains a policy of universal access to higher education, the platform serves as a tool for students to choose from various institutions, including the Universidad Rosario Castellanos and the Benemítica Universidad Autónoma de Puebla. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that the goal is to ensure every student who completes high school has the right to continue their studies in a nearby public university.
