Hugo Escobar Fern贸ndez de Castro leads Constitutional Court inspection to verify water and health rights for Wayuu population in La Guajira

The Constitutional Court is conducting a judicial inspection in La Guajira to verify if the fundamental rights to potable water, health, and nutrition are being guaranteed for the Wayuu population. This investigation follows the 2017 T-302 Sentence, which declared a violation of the fundamental rights of Wayuu infants. Auxiliary magistrate Hugo Escobar Fern贸ndez de Castro led the technical team to critical points including the Way煤u Indigenous Reserve of Perratpu and the Romonero community in Riohacha. During the inspection, the court found that while water sources exist, the region faces significant infrastructure challenges regarding extraction, purification, and sustainability. In Riohacha, the court noted that the Romonero production center is fully operational but has not been formally received by the district administration for five years. To address immediate needs, over 52 million liters of water have been distributed via trucks. The court's journey continues through Manaure and Maicao to evaluate the nutritional status of children under five years old and the living conditions of periurban communities.
