The Ministry of Mines and Energy announced that it will allocate $1.5 billion to pay off the debt owed by the electrical sector to thermoelectric generators. This measure is intended to strengthen market liquidity and ensure the continuity of electricity services. According to data from XM, the total debt with thermoelectric plants stands at at least $2.34 billion. The ministry reported that the first transfer of $300 million will be issued to alleviate outstanding obligations with power generation companies. The government indicated that these resources are part of a broader strategy to face financial pressure on the electrical sector. Vice-minister of Energy Armando José Cuello stated that while concerns regarding potential blackouts during El Niño exist, the government is actively working on solutions to maintain system reliability.
