Bogotá and Medellín Implement Traffic Restrictions to Improve Urban Mobility

The Bogotá District Secretariat of Mobility has established traffic restrictions for private vehicles and taxis to reduce congestion and air pollution during peak hours. The measure, known as Pico and Placa, operates Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., except on holidays and Saturdays. For the September 7 date, vehicles with plates ending in 6, 7, 8, 9, and 0 are restricted from circulating. Drivers who require special permission to bypass these restrictions can purchase a 'Pico and Placa Solidario' permit through a virtual process on the official website. Non-compliance with the measure results in a fine of $633,200 and vehicle immobilization. In Medellín, the Mobility Secretariat has also implemented a rotation system for the second semester of 2026. On Monday, September 7, private vehicles with plates ending in 5 and 8 are restricted, along with motorcycles starting with those digits. The measure aims to create a more ordered and efficient flow of traffic while reducing road risks. Several corridors, including the Regional and Sur (Autopista) avenues, the Las Palmas road, and the 4.1 towards the Antioqueño west, are exempt from these restrictions.
