Google Launches Gemini 3.8 Flash and Cyber Models to Enhance Coding and Cybersecurity Capabilities

Google has released Gemini 3.8 Flash, its third Flash model in six weeks, designed to improve reasoning and coding tasks. The model provides significant gains over its predecessor, Gemini 3.7 Flash, by executing extra reasoning steps and calling tools iteratively to handle complex tasks. Google noted that the model often approaches the performance of higher-cost frontier models while maintaining a low cost and high speed. In addition to the standard release, the administration announced Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber for trusted testers through a new Fairwind Program. This cybersecurity model is designed for autonomous vulnerability discovery and provides frontier-level performance at a lower cost than larger models. While Google's engineers reportedly prefer Gemini 3.8 Flash for internal coding tasks over Anthropic's Claude Opus, the model serves as an incremental release rather than the flagship Gemini 3.5 Pro promised by Sundar Pichai earlier this year. Despite the delay of the flagship model, Google Cloud revenue grew 82% to $24.77 billion in the second quarter, with nearly 90% of the Fortune 100 companies now using Gemini Enterprise.
