The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles announced that Android users can now add their state IDs to Google Wallet.

The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles announced that residents with Android devices can now add their driver’s license or state ID to Google Wallet. This expansion follows a 10-month pause and allows Ohioans to use digital identification on the same platform that previously supported Apple users. To set up the mobile ID, users must take photos of the front and back of their physical card and provide a short video of their face for verification. The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles will review the verification and send a notification and email confirmation. The digital ID can be presented at selected businesses, state buildings, and Ohio casinos, as well as at all TSA checkpoints nationwide. The mobile ID is a voluntary and free program. While the digital ID can be used to verify age or identity, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles stated that individuals are still required to carry a physical card. The digital ID is stored privately on the device and does not sync to the cloud, allowing for remote deletion if a device is lost or stolen.
