Federal forces in Tamaulipas secured at least 135 exotic animals, including Bengal tigers, jaguars, and African lions, during a series of five searches conducted in Tampico and Altamira. The operation, led by the Secretariat of Marine (Semar), the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (FGR), and the Secretariat of Security and Protection of the Citizen (SSPC), targeted investigations into the huachicol (illegal fuel storage and handling). The animals were discovered at a ranch that functioned as an illegal zoo, featuring specialized areas, pools, and cages for various species. At least 35 of these specimens are considered at risk or under special protection according to national standards. Authorities also seized approximately 68,000 liters of diesel and various pieces of equipment, including tractors, boats, and fuel tanks. One person was detained during the operation. The properties were sealed and and left under the care of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office for evaluation and conservation.
